Study Visas (UK)

Unique Visa Services specializes in guiding individuals aged 16 or above who aim to pursue further or higher education courses in the UK. For younger enthusiasts between 4 and 17 years, a Child Student Visa is the right option.

Eligibility for UK Student Visa:

To secure a UK Student Visa, you need to meet specific criteria set by UK Visas and Immigration:

  • You must be at least 16 years old.
  • An unconditional place in an accredited course with a licensed student sponsor is a must.
  • Proficiency in English, either at CEFR Level B2 for degree-level studies or CEFR Level B1 for sub-degree level, is essential.
  • Financial stability to manage your living expenses and course fees is crucial.
  • If you’re 16 or 17 years old, parental or guardian consent is necessary.

Different circumstances may necessitate additional requirements, so consulting an immigration expert is advisable. Contact Unique Visa Services at 0161 9562003 for personalized advice or complete our inquiry form below.

Courses You Can Opt For:

Whether you’re eyeing a full-time course below or above degree level, or considering a part-time course above degree level, we offer multiple options. Specific courses for postgraduate doctors or dentists and English language courses at level B2 or above are also available.

Who Can Apply?

Besides students, the Doctorate Extension Scheme and full-time elected Student Union Sabbatical Officers are also eligible for a Student Visa.

Where You'll Study:

All your course-related activities must occur on the premises of your licensed student sponsor or an affiliated institution.

Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS):

You will receive a CAS reference number once you get an unconditional course offer, and you must apply for your Student Visa within six months after that.

Funding Your Studies:

It’s essential to prove that you have enough funds to pay your course fees and sustain your lifestyle in the UK. Your CAS or a receipt from your student sponsor can confirm any payments made towards course fees or deposits for accommodation.

Cost of Living:

Living costs will differ based on your location in the UK, and these costs must be proven to have been held for at least 28 days before applying for the Student Visa.

Exceptions:

Certain applicants automatically meet the financial criteria, including those who have lived in the UK for 12 months, Student Union Sabbatical Officers, and postgraduate doctors or dentists on recognized programs.

Language Proficiency:

You need to prove your English language skills, usually by passing a Secure English Language Test (SELT) from an approved provider. Exceptions do apply for nationals from majority English-speaking countries or those who have demonstrated English proficiency in a previous application.

Understanding the Genuine Student Rule.

At Unique Visa Services, we ensure you’re well-prepared for your student visa application. You’ll go through an interview process where UK Visas and Immigration officers will question you on various topics like your immigration history, educational background, and course of interest. Your financial and personal circumstances will also be evaluated. The key is to prove you’re a legitimate student, as failing to do so may result in visa denial.

Switching Visa Categories.

For those already residing in the UK under a different visa category, it’s possible to switch to the Student route. However, certain conditions apply, such as your previous visa type and whether you are on immigration bail.

Timelines for Applying.

If you’re applying from outside the UK, aim to submit your application no more than six months before your course begins. For those inside the UK, the window is three months before the course starts, and the course should commence within 28 days of the expiration of your current leave.

Speed of Visa Processing.

Expect to get your visa decision within three weeks if applying from outside the UK. For those applying within the UK, the decision generally comes within eight weeks.

Arrival Guidelines.

Upon approval, you’ll be allowed to enter the UK up to a week before a short course and up to a month for longer courses.

Duration of Student Visa

For students 18 and above, the visa length depends on the course level. For degree-level courses, the duration is up to five years. Below degree-level, it’s usually up to two years. Some exceptions apply, based on the subject and course type.

Work Opportunities.

Degree-level students can work up to 20 hours a week during term and full-time during breaks. For courses below degree level, the limit is 10 hours per week.

Family Members and Dependents.

Course start dates matter for bringing dependents. For courses starting before January 1, 2024, certain conditions and financial requirements apply. For courses beginning after that date, bringing dependents is generally not allowed, with some exceptions for doctoral programs.

Extending Your Stay

You can extend your student visa under specific conditions, including having an unconditional course offer and meeting financial requirements.

Settlement and Work Routes.

Although the student route isn’t a pathway to permanent residency, there are various employment-based routes you can switch to after your studies.
